In august 2007, I came to study English in Montreal. At that time, I thought by one year I'll be fluent in English. We are in September 2008 now, and unfortunately, this is not the case. I'm still struggling with my English, and founding troubles with expressing, sometimes, even simple ideas. But on the other hand, I guess my English has improved.
One of the things that have helped me a lot that I met through my English courses, either at Mgcill or Concordia some good teachers who I've benefited from them a lot. In fact this benefit was not only limited in the language aspect. It was in different life and cultural aspects. I still have a nice and friendly relationship with some of them. We meet from time to time, phone each other, and do emailing.
One of the things also was that I looked when I first came to Montreal to a conversation Partner (one whose first language is English and has an interest in learning Arabic). I was lucky that I found Walter who turned to be a good friend of
Mine. Walter and I are in the same age and share many common interest. This helped the conversation sessions to keep going. We meet twice a week. One hour in English and one hour in Arabic.
Watching T.V also has helped. I noticed that concentrating my watching only on English programs and films has increased my listening skills. I watch T.V for this purpose one to two hours a day.
This is part of my experience.
Hope yours is better than mine…
